Abstract

UTILIZATION OF PEANUT SHELL AND RICE STRAW WASTE INTO BRIQUETTE MATERIALS Ridwan Abdurrahman Wahid Enviromental Engineering Study Program Civil Engineering and Planning Faculty National Institute of Tecnology Nasional ABSTRACT Energy plays a very important role in human life. Energy conservation is crucial, especially because Indonesia still relies on energy sources from mining. One effort to reduce dependence on fossil fuels is to increase the use of alternative energy, such as biomass. Biomass that has the potential for making briquettes includes rice straw and peanut shells. The purpose of this study is to determine the potential of rice straw and peanut shells as alternative fuels and the suitability of the quality of briquette charcoal from the study with the SNI 01-6235-2000 standard The research conducted was an experimental study on a laboratory scale, namely making briquettes using rice straw waste and peanut skin with variations in material composition of 40:60, 50:50, 60:40 and adhesive material in the form of tapioca flour by testing the water content, ash content, and calorific value to determine the suitability of the quality of the research briquette charcoal with the SNI 01-6235-2000 briquette quality standard. Briquettes with variations in the composition of rice straw and peanut skins showed the best results at a ratio of 50% rice straw and 50% peanut skins, with a water content of 0.15%, ash content of 0.89%, and a calorific value reaching 3,248.90 cal / g.
