Abstract

Welding procedures seem very trivial and simple, but in fact there are many problems that must be overcome where the solution requires a variety of knowledge. Because in welding, knowledge must participate in accompanying practice. In more detail it can be said that in the design of construction of buildings and machines with welded joints, it must be planned also about the method of welding, inspection methods, welding materials and types of welds that will be used based on the functions of the building parts or engine designed. Welding MIG method, Las MIG (Metal Inert Gas) is a gas arc welding that uses welding wire as well as an electrode. These electrodes are in the form of wire rolls (rollers) whose movements are regulated by an electric motor. The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of influence of MIG (Metal Insert Gas) welded joints on mechanical properties in ASTM A131 Grade B steel welded joints. With a welding speed rate of 12, 10 and 8 mm / s. After the welding process, continued with the making of 9 tensile test specimens with the standard JIS Z 2201 1981, 9 specimens for hardness testing, and 4 specimens for testing macro microstructure. Based on the results of the assessment of violence it was found that the results of testing surface hardness in the Las area for variations in the speed of welding 8 mm / s showed the highest value of 87,33 HR, while the second welding variation of 10 mm / s found a hardness of 87 HR and welding variations 3rd found the hardness value of 87 HR. In the Tensile Test the results of the tensile strength test using variations in the speed of welding rate 12, 10 and 8 mm / s where using the ASTM A131 GRADE B Plate the speed of 12 mm / s has the highest tensile strength compared to other positions which is 27,38 kgf/mm2.
