Abstract

Merdeka Square Malang which is located in the center of the Central Bussines District of Malang City which is an outdoor public space that can accommodate every community activity. While the Olympic Garden Mall which is one of the shopping centers in Malang City. Not only acts as a shopping center. Can also accommodate social activities.. This research uses an analysis of the physical setting, social activities, and public perceptions of Malang City Square (Indoor Public Space) and Mall Olympic Garden (Outdoor Public Space). The conclusion based on the physical setting and public perception shows that the space provided for social activities in Malang City Square is more dominant and varied. The radial circulation system forms a sociopetal interaction. While the public perception shows that people are still more likely to choose Malang City Square to carry out social activities. Meanwhile, the Olympic Garden Mall is still seen as a place to fulfill economic needs (shopping).
