Abstract

The rapid development of education in the city of Malang has led to an increase in the number of students from tertiary institutions, so that existing work and study facilities cannot accommodate the overall increase in the number of students. So, it is necessary to design a multi-functional building as a solution to accommodate work and study activities. Malang Co-Working Space & Library is an area that facilitates work and study activities with facilities that can synergize with one another. In addition, this design also aims to accommodate a group of individuals with various activities involving collaboration, networking, discussion, innovation, information. The biophilic architectural approach is used as a design method in Malang Co-Working Space & Library. The implementation of biophilic architecture in Malang Co-Working Space & Library is a solution in creating a place for work and study activities and maintaining the welfare of its users. The design strategy of biophilic design as a guideline that is used emphasizes how to present the natural environment in the built environment and how to bring nature into space. The application of biophilic architecture in the form of "nature in space" in the site design, space, shape, structure and utilities results in a different architectural form design but one with the environment around the site. It is hoped that the facilities designed at Malang Co-Working Space & Library can become a platform that bridges positive interactions between users and becomes a place that is able to optimize productivity, release stress and maintain the mental and physical health of its users. It is also hoped that this facility will be able to become a building icon with an enthusiastic and productive social community in accommodating creative ideas in the future.
