Abstract
Waste from the processing of sugar cane and cassava peel is a source that has the potential to be utilized. Using these materials to create briquettes is a smart solution for producing alternative fuels. Coal and oil, the two main energy sources currently, are increasingly depleting. Therefore, it is important for us to look for renewable energy sources, such as briquettes, which can be renewed sustainably. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the composition of bagasse and cassava peel on the calorific value and burning rate of biomass briquettes. The research carried out used sugar cane bagasse and cassava peel as raw materials, which were bound with tapioca flour in three different ratios: 70/50/15, 60/60/15, and 50/70/15 grams. The research results showed that the lowest heating value was found in the briquette composition 60/60/15 with a yield of 3.75 cal/gr, while the highest combustion rate was achieved by the composition 70/50/15 with a yield of 4.67 cal/gr. The lowest burning rate was measured at composition 70/50/15 with a result of 7.63 gr/minute, while the highest burning rate was recorded at composition 50/70/15 with a result of 8.06 gr/minute. The lowest water content was found in the composition 70/50/15 with a yield of 14.6%, while the highest combustion water content was found in the composition 60/60/15 with a yield of 30.5%.
